Frequently Unanswered Questions

Some frequently asked but frequently unanswered questions about Faith No More.

When was Faith No More's first gig?
11th October 1983 @ On Broadway, San Francisco, CA, USA.

Faith No More released a demo tape in 1983 with a recording of some or all songs from their first gig, including details of the date and location of the recording. See the date link for more detail.
Was Courtney Love in Faith No More?
Yes, some time between late 1983 and early 1984 for around six months for no more than four gigs.

It is known that Chuck was approached to join the band in "early 1984."
It is assumed from various interviews and The Real Story that the Courtney and Chuck eras overlapped in early 1984.

More information can be found at Faith No More Past and Current Members.
When was Mike Patton's first gig with Faith No More?
"The Real Story" and band memories indicate the gig was at the I-Beam in San Francisco.

There is much evidence of a debut-the-new-singer gig in November 1988 with Mike Patton, including a review of the gig in BAM Magazine 2nd Dec 1988 by Steffan Chirazi (who wrote "The Real Story"). Both the review and band recollections indication that the reception for Patton by old fans wasn't good.

The first I-Beam gig is sometimes confused with a later I-Beam gig during which the "From Out Of Nowhere" video was recorded and Mike Patton injured his hand on broken glass, numbing it forever. It is believed this gig was early 1989, possibly as late as May. "The Real Story" indicates that the "From Out Of Nowhere" recording was Patton's second gig, but this is now believed to be wrong.

The earliest 100% confirmed Patton gig is 3rd February 1989 @ River Theater, Guerneville, CA, USA.
There is also more than ample evidence of a gig at I-Beam, San Francisco, CA, USA on the 4th November 1988.
Why is the 12th March 1989 @ Bogarts bootleg called "Mike Patton's First Gig"?
It is assumed that because it is the first bootleg recording of Patton with the band, over time it has been confused as being his first gig ever.

There is solid evidence of many gigs with Patton before the 12th March 1989.

It is also possible that the "Bogart's" video is mislabeled and is either a different venue or a different date. There is evidence of a Faith No More gig at Bogart's on 11th February 1989.
